I’m off to Houston tomorrow morning for a multi-themed trip. The Memphis Tigers’ advancement to the Sweet Sixteen is more than a good enough excuse to go back to Houston for a weekend. Not only do I have plans to see the Tigers stomp Michigan State and either Stanford or Texas to advance to the Final Four, but I’m also getting to see the Lucy’s Legacy exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Saturday morning. I am so excited! Oh, and did I mention that I also plan to eat at the Cheesecake Factory? Yum!

I’ve just added six image galleries. I’ve adjusted the timestamps on them so that visitors can see when they actually happened. I’ll be doing this with all of the old pictures I add to the site so that they’ll show up in chronological order. As I add them, I’ll make a post so you’ll know to go find them. The ones I added today were those from our trip to Niagara Falls over Labor Day weekend, our family backyard camping trip, Halloween 2007, Christmas 2007, Elliot’s 4th birthday, and ESPN Game Day at the FedEx Forum.

I’m sure it had become obvious to just about everybody that I haven’t updated egarst.com in - oh - about a year. Shame on me. Really, I’m very sorry about that because I know a lot of people depended on this site for updates on our family and on Elliot, in particular. After well-deserved and prolonged hounding from Dave, here is the almost new-and-improved site. I say “almost” because I’m still working on the site design. What you see here is not my work, but gradual changes should be evident over time.
There are a few new things about this site that I think will be a big hit. For one, this is now a blog. The good thing about that is that updates are a lot easier to do, and I can give Dave access to post entries as well. The guestbook is gone, but you can leave comments on the posts as long as you can get through our nifty spam filter. Come on, I dare you!
I’ve converted most of the text content from the old site, but I’m still working on getting the pictures moved (and updated!) I appreciate your patience.

Dave and I got to go see the #1 Memphis Tigers play the #2 Tennessee Volunteers at the FedEx Forum. The game was the feature of ESPN’s Game Day, and we went to that too. See that huge line in the pictures? That is what Dave refers to as “the EVIL line.” Yes, we were in line all day and nearly got trampled to get into the game. On top of that, the Tigers didn’t even win.

We celebrated Elliot’s Fourth Birthday Party at Chuck E. Cheese’s. I baked him a chocolate dragon cake with cream cheese frosting. If you like the cake design, you can find instructions to make your own on this web site. But be warned: if you want to make it as green as mine, plan on using an entire bottle of green food coloring! I even had to add some blue to that to get the shade right. Elliot helped me bake and frost the cake. He’s a whiz in the kitchen!

Here are pictures from our Christmas celebration last year. Dave and I hosted Christmas in our home, and Dave smoked a beautiful turkey. (Yes, it tasted as good as it looked!) Elliot’s favorite gift was his “hockey-doctor” (translation: helicopter.) You can see him flying it in a couple of the pictures, if you look really closely.

Here are our pictures that we took at Halloween last year. A couple of these are from our trip to the Corn Maize at the Agricenter. The rest are pictures of Halloween night. We trick-or-treat in Central Gardens every year. This year, I used my new sewing machine to make Elliot a Curious George costume. Dave was the Man in the Yellow Hat. I don’t know what I was. I just found a yellow outfit at Goodwill so I would match Dave.

Over Labor Day weekend, Dave and I took a trip up to Buffalo, New York for the Buffalo Wing Festival. We ended up spending more time in Canada than in New York, however. We went up into Ontario and toured several Canadian wineries and saw Niagara Falls. Actually, we spent more time finding a parking place and trying to get out of the town than we actually spent looking at the Falls. We spent the last day of our trip at the Festival, where we had some really good and really interesting versions of wings. Oddly enough, though our primary reason for going on the trip was to go to the festival, we didn’t take a single photo of the festival itself, though we got some great shots from our journey into Canada.
